Chapter 7-14 (pages 27-57)

Now I'm really starting to remember why I liked this book so much! The characters are all so different; Bradley's rude and disgusting, Jeff is noble and kind, Carla is so incredibly nice it's almost scary, and so on. The three girls (Colleen, Lori and Melinda) totally remind me of when I was in fifth grade. It's that strange, awkward time in a kid's life when puberty is just about to start and you don't really understand the way you feel, so you insult and harass the person you have a crush on.
I am more and more liking Carla Davis' personality, though. When I read this book as a kid, I don't think I payed much attention to her role in the story. Now that I'm a teacher, though, I can't help but think that I would like to end up like her; she seems to be able to make even the nastiest, rudest, filthiest, and most disrespectful kid in school like her.

Isnt it crazy to read something as a kid and have thoughts on what you just read, and then to go back and read the same thing as an adult and see it in a totally different light?

I totally agree about Carla. She is such an amazing person in this book. She sure showed me how much impact adults have on children's lives. There are definately things about her that I am going to implement into my relationships with my own students.
